An aircraft hovering over a popular southern California shoreline unexpectedly commenced twirling wildly, ultimately dropping height and smashing into a cluster of palm trees as onlookers observed.
Recordings posted online show the chopper commencing to spiral near the beach then plunging towards the edge of the shore, where it gets stuck among palm groves and a set of stairs near the Pacific Coast highway.
The Huntington Beach fire department reported five persons were transported to a medical facility involving two who were in the helicopter and were “safely pulled from the wreckage” following the accident on Saturday.
Three persons on the road were injured. Details on their condition were still under review.
What led to the incident was still under investigation.
Officials mentioned the helicopter was connected to an annual “Cars N Copters” fundraising event set for the next day.
